TraismauerTraismauer is a town in the Sankt Pölten-Land district of the state Lower Austria. The area was once part of the Roman province Noricum.Today, the town has 5,827 inhabitants. The town centre was completely re-organised as part of the Lower Austria town regeneration project. Historical sights and modern buildings such as the Pribina Fountain or the fountain in the main square combine to create a harmonious townscape. One important building is Schloss Traismauer. The Roman votive lettering above the entrance to the castle is the oldest evidence of the history of the town and is dedicated to Kaiser Antonius Pius (138-161 A.D.). Well-preserved walls of a small Roman fort from the 4th or 5th century are visible in the castle's courtyard. Schloss Traismauer's mention in the Nibelungenlied as a resting place on Kriemhild's journey to Etzel put it on the world literature map. The dinosaur park "Jurassic Island" is a big tourist attraction. More information on Traismauer |
