OdenheimThe little village of Odenheim, today part of Östringen in the Kraichgau, is named as Siegfried's place of death in the Nibelungenlied. Many tourists visit the stony Siegfried Fountain.Odenheim was first referred to in writing in 769. From the 12th century the history of Odenheim was closely associtated with the nearby benedictine monastery at Wigoldsberg, which was later known as Odenheim Monastery. The borough of Östringen was created at the beginning of the 1970s as part of local government reform in Baden-Württemberg. The villages of Tiefenbach and Eichelberg are also part of the borough, as well as Odenheim and Östringen itself. The population of Odenheim counts for 3,700 of the total 13,000 inhabitants of Östringen. As well as small-scale business, winegrowing is still very important today. The village is part of the administrative district of Karlsruhe. More information on Odenheim |
