Eferding

The third oldest town in Austria, Eferding was granted its town charter in 1222.

The medieval town square has been preserved almost unchanged. The house in which the famous astronomer Johannes Kepler married a citizen of Eferding is situated in this square. Further sights include Eferding Castle and the parish church. In the Nibelungenlied, Kriemhild rested in Eferding on her way to Hungary.

Eferding is in the Hausruck region, named after a ridge, near the Eferding district of the state Upper Austria. The small town has around 3,500 inhabitants. The nearest large town is the state capital Linz. Eferding lies in the so-called Eferding Basin.
